A bomb-sniffing dog that sat on or near a lawyer’s abandoned laptop bag spurred an hour-and-a-half shutdown of an American Airlines terminal at JFK Airport yesterday.

Authorities called in the Bomb Squad after the dog indicated the bag might contain explosives by sitting on or near it it, report the New York Post and the New York Daily News. A bomb squad called to check on the bag found only papers.

The Post says an Upper West Side lawyer had tossed the empty bag on the floor in a “bonehead decision,” but does not identify him. The Wall Street Journal’s Metropolis blog, however, indicates the bag was accidentally left behind.
