Two Texas lawyers are achieving some fame with a song that warns the marijuana-consuming public about the legal dangers of destroying evidence.

The lawyers, Will Hutson and Chris Harris, explain that possession of less than two ounces of marijuana is a Class B misdemeanor in Texas, but it becomes a felony if there is an attempt to destroy it, the Waco Tribune-Herald reports in a story noted by the Wall Street Journal Law Blog.

Their song, “Don’t Eat Your Weed,” has gotten radio play and more than 269,000 views on YouTube as of Wednesday night. They have been interviewed on radio stations in El Paso and Salt Lake City, and they are scheduled to appear on a Chicago radio show later this month.

“We started out just trying to generate hits on our website to make it more relevant,” Harris told the Tribune-Herald. He adds that the video does not advocate the use of marijuana. The idea is that if you choose to use it, you should be educated.

The lawyers have posted two other songs on YouTube. “What the Hail is Going On?” is about dealing with insurance claims. “Shut Up” is about Miranda warnings.
