Lawyers for Sirhan Sirhan, who is serving time for the 1968 slaying of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, have filed court papers in Los Angeles challenging his conviction.

They claim a bullet was switched at Sirhan’s trial to conceal the fact that his gun didn’t fire the fatal shot. They also say Sirhan was hypnotized and contend other forensic evidence shows he is innocent, reports the Associated Press in a brief article.

The California attorney general’s office is handling the appeal for the state and declined comment.
