Lawyer's Former Mistress Expected to Plead Guilty Today in Plot to Kill His Wife
The former mistress of Texas personal injury lawyer Jeffrey Stern is expected to plead guilty today in a murder-for-hire plot to kill his wife.
The plea deal for Michelle Gaiser calls for a 20-year sentence, the Houston Chronicle reports. She is accused of hiring three hit men to kill Stern’s wife, Yvonne Stern, who survived a gunshot to the abdomen. Yvonne Stern was targeted in two other shootings, but the bullets missed.
Jeffrey Stern was also originally accused in the plot, but prosecutors dropped charges this week, citing a lack of evidence. Yvonne Stern says she believes her husband was not involved in the shootings.
Yvonne Stern’s lawyer, Chip Lewis, told the Chronicle he will object to the plea deal as too lenient.
