The U.S. Department of Labor is bringing a civil enforcement action against the brother of imprisoned church leader Warren Jeffs.

It contends that the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Lyle Jeffs and another defendant cheated some 1,400 children and adults out of nearly two years’ worth of wages for pecan harvest work at a Utah ranch outside of Hurricane, Courthouse News reports.

The feds say the defendants knowingly or recklessly violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by failing to pay required minimum wages and overtime. They also allege that the church employed children during school hours.
