When Greg Bufithis created his “posse list” in 2002, the Washington, D.C.-based lawyer would e-mail frequent news updates and work opportunities to a handful of contract attorneys on local legal projects.

However, what began as a simple e-mail newsletter has since morphed into an internationally recognized website devoted to upcoming projects, industry news and e-discovery resources, legal technology blogger Gabe Acevedo wrote in a post on Above the Law today. The list swelled in 2008 from laid-off associates on the lookout for work, Acevedo noted.

Today, the Posse List boasts nearly 100 e-mail discussion lists from Los Angeles to New York and almost 20,000 members that span in-house counsel, project managers, paralegals and law firm lawyers.
