Legal Recruiters See More Hiring, But Laid-Off Associates Aren’t in Demand
Legal recruiters are reporting an uptick in law firm hiring, but the news isn’t good for laid-off associates.
Law firms are mostly looking for lawyers who are currently employed, recruiters tell the Am Law Daily.
Margie Grossberg, a partner at legal search firm Major Lindsey & Africa, tells the publication more lawyers are getting job offers, and she expects the trend to continue next year.
“The sweet spot is midlevel associates,” Grossberg said. “Associates in the classes of 2005 to 2007 who are extremely well-credentialed and qualified in an academic and work-experience sense are the most sought-after.”
The Robert Half Legal Hiring Index, a quarterly survey, is also highlighting the trend, the story says. Thirty-one percent of law firms responding to the survey plan to add jobs in the first quarter next year, an increase of 7 percent over the number reporting hiring plans for the fourth quarter of 2010.
The increased demand is due to more work in areas that include corporate, litigation, labor and employment, and health care, recruiters said.
