The legal services sector lost 1,400 jobs in January, according to seasonally adjusted data from the U.S. Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The new figures were released Friday, the Am Law Daily reports. The loss comes after the legal services sector gained jobs in December, albeit in smaller numbers than first reported.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics originally reported that the legal services sector added 1,200 jobs in December. That number has been revised downward to reflect a gain of just 400 jobs in December.

Despite the latest job losses, the legal industry is doing better than last year. Overall, the legal sector has gained 7,600 jobs compared to the same time last year.

Data from 2015 showed legal employment rising “in fits and starts” throughout the year, according to the Am Law Daily.
