Less Work for Staff After Lawyer Layoffs, So Seyfarth Adds to Staff Layoff List

After laying off about 30 attorneys and paralegals in December, Seyfarth Shaw is now laying off another 25 or so staff members.

In an internal memo reported by Above the Law, the Chicago-based firm announces the new layoffs and says 14 of those affected this time around work in its headquarters office.

"This decision reflects, in part, the residual effect of the reduction in timekeepers announced in December, as well as the need for increased operational efficiency," the firm states in the memo. It also thanks staff for their work and promises news of revised secretarial assignments shortly.

Kind of like a “death spiral,” as one layoff leads to the next, and so on, and Seyfarth.

It just goes hand in hand why would you keep the support staff if the work wasn’t even there for the lawyers? It’s time to run a law firm like a proper business.
