Los Angeles-based Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith has raided Kutak Rock to open a new office in Wichita, Kansas.

Only one of the firm’s nine attorneys there is remaining with Omaha-based 500-attorney Kutak, and he will be moving to a new office, reports the Wichita Eagle.

The eight others joined Lewis Brisbois on Friday.

“It’s a huge move without going anywhere,” partner Alan Rupe, who will be in charge of the new office, tells the Eagle. “We’ve in fact negotiated with Kutak, and we’re going to assume the same space we’re in out here.” Rupe will also serve as vice chair of the national labor and employment practice for Lewis Brisbois, which has nearly 1,000 attorneys.

Commercial litigator Richard Olmstead is the sole lawyer remaining at Kutak Rock in Wichita, which he describes as a good fit with his practice.

“We will keep a presence in Wichita,” he told the Eagle. “Right now we’re in the process of trying to identify space.”
