'Life is not linear': McDermott partner who left law practice in 1997 regains partnership
A partner at McDermott Will & Emery in Washington, D.C., who left the firm and gave up law practice in 1997 has regained her partnership.
Sally Rosenberg joined the firm in 1987 and became a partner in the firm’s health law group in 1993, Legal Times (sub. req.) reports. She left in 1997, two years after the death of her mother caused Rosenberg to re-examine her priorities.
During her time away, Rosenberg focused on parenting and more creative pursuits as president of a children’s theater and author of a children’s novel. After a divorce, Rosenberg decided that McDermott could offer financial stability and she rejoined the firm in 2008 in an administrative capacity. Later she went to work in the general counsel’s office for the firm and became a deputy general counsel.
She sought partnership last year and got the partnership in January. “Life is not linear,” Rosenberg told Legal Times. “McDermott has been nothing short of tremendous in recognizing this reality.”
