Some lawyers have been let go at the Atlanta office of Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker, but the layoffs are nothing unusual, the firm says.

In a one-sentence response to a request for information from Above the Law concerning tips that a substantial number of associates have been given their walking papers, the firm states: “As in previous years, there is some limited turnover taking place in our Atlanta office as part of our annual performance evaluation process, as well as from attrition.”

In other departures, the firm’s 17-lawyer Atlanta-based immigration practice group recently announced a planned move to the San Francisco-based Berry Appleman & Leiden boutique, writes the Daily Report (sub. req.).

A former San Francisco associate of the firm didn’t leave quietly last year, and helped create headlines about reported Paul Hastings layoffs last spring by blasting the firm in an e-mail for letting her go shortly after she suffered a miscarriage, as discussed in an earlier ABAJournal.com post.

However, Paul Hastings made international headlines only a few weeks ago with a partner acquisitions coup: The London office of Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft is losing 7 of its 11 partners, who apparently have been attracted by greener pastures at Paul Hastings, as another ABAJournal.com post details.
