The deal has been formally approved: Texas-based Locke Liddell & Sapp will merge with Lord, Bissell & Brook, a firm with headquarters in Chicago.

The new 700-lawyer firm will be called Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell, Texas Lawyer reports. It will have 11 offices and gross revenues of about $400 million when the merger takes place on Oct. 2.

Locke Liddell managing partner Jerry Clements will lead the new firm. She said in a press release (PDF) that the deal will enable the firms to “establish a larger national footprint and increase our breadth and depth.”

Lord Bissell chairman Thomas Jenkins, who will be co-vice chairman of the new firm, said Locke Liddell’s expertise in energy and corporate securities will help the firm serve its clients better.

Locke Liddell has three offices in Texas, one in New Orleans and one in Washington, D.C. Outside of Chicago, Lord Bissell has two offices in California, one in Atlanta, one in Washington, D.C., one in New York and one in London. Lord Bissell’s D.C. lawyers will move into Locke Liddell’s new office space there.
