Longtime law library director who gave workers unauthorized county-paid perks gets jail time
Known for decades as a polite and helpful worker at a Pennsylvania courthouse, a former director of the Montgomery County Law Library is now headed to jail.
Bruce Piscadlo, 62, will be allowed to serve his one- to 23-month sentence on weekends, the Mercury reports. Earlier this year, he pleaded guilty to felony theft by taking and a misdemeanor count of misapplication of entrusted property concerning unauthorized purchases made for himself and others on his staff with county funds. More than $6,000 was spent between 2010 and 2012, according to prosecutors.
“Not only did the defendant steal money from the Montgomery County Law Library, but he also violated the trust that taxpayers had in him,” said assistant district attorney Jeremy Abidiwan-Lupo. “We requested a jail time sentence because he was in a trusted position and violated that trust.”
Piscadlo’s attorney, John McMahon Jr., recalled for the court from his own personal experience, visiting the library as a law student, how helpful, courteous and patient Piscadlo was. Now he is headed to jail and likely to lose at least a substantial portion of his pension after working for the county since the 1980s.
“I think he’s just trying to keep his head above water. He’s lost his house. He’s lost his pension. He’s unemployed. It’s just a very tragic, unfortunate case,” McMahon said.
