Some people may be getting the message about the difficult job market for new law grads.

The number of people taking the Law School Admission Test dropped by 16.5 percent in December, the Legal Skills Prof Blog reports.

According to the Law School Admission Council, 42,096 people took the test in December, a drop of 16.5 percent from the prior year. The number of first-time test takers saw an even bigger decline of 22 percent.

Year-to-date numbers, encompassing June through December, show 10 percent fewer people took the test last year. But the totals are still the second highest ever, with 2009 representing the apex.
