One of Tampa’s biggest and best-known law firms will split in two on Nov. 1, separating the insurance trial team from the corporate lawyers in what is being described as an amicable separation.

However, it isn’t yet clear which segment of the 65-year-old Florida firm will get to keep the Fowler White Boggs Banker name, reports the St. Petersburg Times.

“Without a doubt, both groups want the Fowler White name,” senior partner Robert Banker tells the newspaper. He is the leader of a spin-off group of about 150 to 200 lawyers and support staff, which includes the insurance trial group. The firm has about 200 attorneys and a total of about 550 employees.

The division of the firm doesn’t signal any financial concerns, and isn’t expected to result in any layoffs, according to Banker and Rhea Law, the law firm’s chief executive and board chair.
