It all began Tuesday morning with what might have initially seemed like a fairly routine traffic stop.

The police chief in Jamestown, Tennessee, spotted a man whom he knew had a revoked license behind the wheel of a pickup truck. So Chief Ken Hancock pulled over 66-year-old Jacob Tinch–or tried to, reports WBIR.

Tinch kept driving about a mile and a half into the city’s downtown, Detective Rob Lower told the station. Then he drove across the courthouse lawn and onto the sidewalk, gunned the motor and crashed through the glass courthouse doors, the detective said.

The truck wound up in the county property assessor’s office, but no one was injured because the assessor was able to pull a man out of harm’s way as the crash took place, WBIR reports.

Tinch was charged with committing an act of terrorism because he allegedly said he wanted to kill government officials.

He also faces additional charges including reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

The courthouse was closed pending a safety inspection.
