Man arrested at Pa. courthouse is charged with stealing files from Reed Smith
A visitor to a Pennsylvania courthouse was arrested Wednesday after authorities said he behaved in an unusual manner, falsely claimed to be both a law firm intern and an intern for a local judge and was determined to have stolen civil case files from a major law firm in his possession.
A criminal complaint says Josh Aaron Dowell-Miller, 19, told sheriff’s deputies at the Allegheny County Courthouse in Pittsburgh that he stole the files from Reed Smith while at the law firm for an internship interview, WTAE reports.
“Deputies then learned that Dowell-Miller had recently been at this firm under false pretenses during the same time period that the files became missing and was escorted from the building,” said the sheriff’s office in a written statement provided to the station.
Dowell-Miller was not an intern at Reed Smith, KDKA reported.
He was charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. At last report, he was being held at the county jail pending arraignment.
The articles don’t include any comment from Dowell-Miller or his counsel.
KDKA notes that the files were returned to the law firm. It also says Dowell-Miller is accused of having posed as an intern in order to get hold of court documents.
