Man arrested for trying to bring loaded gun into courthouse had threatened his wife, authorities say
A 41-year-old man arrested Monday morning as he allegedly tried to bring a loaded gun into a Texas courthouse was there for a divorce case hearing involving his estranged wife, authorities say.
Court records show that Hyonbo Ko also had two outstanding arrest warrants when he was taken into custody at the Bexar County Courthouse in San Antonio after a security screener spotted the weapon, according to the Beaumont Enterprise, KABB and KSAT.
One warrant, for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, concerned a claim by his wife that he tried to run her over with his car on Friday during a court-ordered child visitation. Another, for making a terroristic threat, concerned her claim that he called her on Sunday and told her he would “make it hurt worse next time.”
He is now facing three criminal cases and being held without bond at the Bexar County Jail. KENS says he is charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in a prohibited place over the courthouse incident.
However, his lawyer, Andrew Preece, said his client simply forgot that he had the weapon with him. “He put the bag through security—it wasn’t like he was trying to hide the weapon,” the attorney told the newspaper.
A spokeswoman for the county sheriff’s office disagreed.
“We believe he had an intent to use that loaded gun this morning,” spokeswoman Rosanne Hughes told KABB, adding: “We really averted what could be a disastrous day.”
Monday’s scheduled hearing in the 57th District Court divorce case concerned possible contempt for non-payment, KENS reports.
