A police chase in Louisiana ended abruptly Thursday when the vehicle officers were pursuing crashed into the Vermilion Parish Courthouse.

Police said the driver suffered a broken leg in the crash, and the courthouse sustained minor damage when the vehicle caught fire after it crashed into a column on the west side of the building, according to the Advocate and KATC.

One of two passengers in the black Ford 500 was an unidentified escapee from a juvenile detention facility, who was taken into custody.

The chase ensued after police got a tip there were drugs and weapons inside the vehicle.

Abbeville Police Lt. David Hardy said further arrests are anticipated.
