A New Jersey man was accused of stealing his friend’s car last Friday, a day after expressing concern about how he would find transportation to a court appearance.

Police say they arrested Jorge Ramirez-Sierra of Riverdale, New Jersey, when he returned the car to his friend’s home, report NJ.com and the New York Daily News. The friend told police he suspected Ramirez-Sierra had taken the 2011 Ford Fusion to get to court because he stated several times on Thursday evening that he didn’t know how he would get to court the next day.

Police said Ramirez-Sierra returned not only with the car, but also with a hypodermic needle, a crack pipe and an open airplane bottle of Fireball whiskey. Police say they also discovered that Ramirez-Sierra was driving on a suspended license.

Ramirez-Sierra was charged with unlawful taking of a means of conveyance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a hypodermic needle, driving on a suspended license, and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Lt. James Macintosh told the New York Daily News it was unclear if Ramirez-Sierra made his court appearance, given his arrival at his friend’s house at 10:30 a.m. “He took the car at 4:30 in the morning and returned with the drugs. You can make your own conclusions,” Macintosh said.
