Man who slashed lawyer's face at attempt-murder trial gets 64 years to life, plus 35 years
A defendant in a California attempted murder case who reportedly slashed his lawyer in the face with a razor blade in front of the jury and a visiting group of high school students last year during trial is set to spend decades in prison.
Eduardo Macias, 33, had to represent himself for the remainder of the trial, was convicted, and got 64 years to life, plus another 35 years, at his San Diego sentencing on Monday, California News Service reports.
Macias pleaded guilty in May to attempted mayhem, apparently concerning his courtroom attack on attorney William Burgener, who had to get stitches for a cut on his cheek.
Macias reportedly brought the razor blade to court in his mouth.
