The son of lawyer Marc Dreier claims in a $1 million lawsuit that he dropped out of college because of verbal abuse, physical assault and defamatory comments by his former roommate.
Marc Dreier is awaiting sentencing after a guilty plea in a scheme to sell investors phony promissory notes costing hundreds of millions of dollars in losses. His son, Spencer, claims in the lawsuit that the roommate physically assaulted him three times at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., the Associated Press reports.
The suit also says the roommate, Ben Clorite of Madison, Conn., verbally abused and defamed the younger Dreier in Internet posts that said he committed illegal acts.
Marc Dreier’s lawyer, Gerald Shargel, told a court earlier this month that his client was subsisting mostly on Spencer's bar mitzvah gifts. The older Dreier remains free on bail pending his sentencing.
