'Marlins man' at World Series is a Miami lawyer
A Miami lawyer is getting noticed for his appearance at the World Series.
Laurence Leavy has been on TV behind home plate in Kansas City, bedecked in an orange Miami Marlins shirt among blue-attired Kansas City Royals fans, the Miami Herald and CBS Sports report. He is a 58-year-old Miami lawyer who practices workers compensation law, according to the Miami Herald.
Leavy told KSHB that he paid $7,000 for his World Series seat.
Leavy told the Miami Herald that stadium officials asked him to move or cover up his jersey with a Kansas City Royals shirt. Next the officials offered him a private suite or other freebies to move or take off the shirt, he said. (A Royals spokesman denies that any offers were made.)
Leavy has owned a Marlins season ticket since 1993, is a Florida State fan, and usually attends all the Miami Heat and Dolphins games. He also tells the Miami Herald he has attended 27 Super Bowls, more than 200 NBA playoff games, and at least 85 World Series games. He is also a horse racing fan and owns more than 100 thoroughbreds, according to the Miami Herald.
“I never had any kids, nor have any wife,” Leavy told the Miami Herald. “You don’t have to pay for a wife and kids, so you have money in the bank.”
Greedy Associates noted the coverage, and Leavy was also noticed in an October 2012 story by SB Nation.
