A legal publication in Massachusetts has made headlines by providing a forum in which lawyers can anonymously rate the judges in front of whom they regularly appear.

Although attorneys who use the JudgeCenter (sub. req.) site provided by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly must register under their own names, their comments are posted anonymously, reports the Gloucester Daily Times.

And they aren’t edited either, except for language, says JoAnn Griffin, a Lawyers Weekly spokesperson. The comments are fair, because both positive and negative comments are included, she adds.

Newburyport District Court Judge Allen Swan hasn’t yet checked out the website, but says constructive comments are always helpful to a jurist, the Gloucester Daily Times writes.

Recent posts from early this month made about another judge are critical, however, characterizing him as favoring, as one post puts it, “the well-connected.”
