Mass Defection Shutters Buckingham's Columbus Office, for Now
After 27 of 28 lawyers in its Columbus office jumped ship for a competing Ohio law firm, Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs has temporarily shuttered its shop there.
But the president of the 140-attorney firm says it “probably” will reopen its Columbus office, reports the National Law Journal. It appears that the Buckingham firm doesn’t even have one lawyer left in the city; the legal publication indicates that the 28th attorney in the Columbus office is planning to move to another, unspecified law firm.
The lawyers who left Buckingham’s Columbus office for 375-attorney Dinsmore & Shohl were attracted by its intellectual property and mineral rights capabilities, according to Don Leach Jr., 53, a former Buckingham lawyer who will now lead Dinsmore’s Columbus office. “There’s a more aggressive attitude at Dinsmore in terms of marketing and taking advantage of business opportunities,” he says.
