Mayer Brown Expects to Cut Up to 55 People in UK; Memo Spurs Fears of More
Mayer Brown is expecting to lay off up to 55 lawyers and staffers in its London office.
The law firm said in an internal memo today that it has begun the London redundancy consultation as part of a review of its global operations, Above the Law reports. The memo has some wondering if more U.S. jobs could be on the line, the blog says.
The firm says in the memo that it has not yet determined what the global review “will mean for each office and practice.”
“However, the only responsible course is to align our personnel levels with current and anticipated client demand for our services,” the memo reads. “We are carefully weighing our decisions and considering a number of options, with full recognition that these decisions could affect the careers and lives of people whose contributions to the firm we value. We expect to make any further decisions shortly.”
The law firm released a statement to the ABA Journal that also mentions the global review. “The specifics of what that will mean for other offices are still being determined and various options are under consideration,” the statement said.
Last November the firm laid off 33 lawyers in the United States and announced a redundancy consultation affecting up to 11 London lawyers.
