Mayer Brown Hires 3 UK Partners in Move to Show ‘Bench Strength’

Mayer Brown is adding three partners to its London finance practice.

London leveraged finance chief Dominic Griffiths told Legal Week that the additions are not based on predictions that the economy is recovering. Instead, the hires are part of a push to build the firm’s European corporate and finance groups.

“We believe it to be sensible to take on a mix of people, in terms of seniority and practice, to show clients that we have bench strength,” Griffiths said. “We will now have the depth and ability.”

The new lawyers are Lee Cullinane of Clifford Chance, Nicola Marley of Linklaters, and Graham Wedlake of Taylor Wessing, Legal Week says. With the new hires, Mayer Brown will have 10 lawyers in its London leveraged finance group and 16 in its overall finance practice, the story says.
