A 2009 deposition released this week confirms New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s disdain for employees who quit his company.

“More so than ever,” Bloomberg believes anyone who quits Bloomberg L.P., should fail, the Associated Press reports.

The comments were in response to questioning by a lawyer for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in a 2007 discrimination case alleging Bloomberg L.P. engaged in a pattern of demoting pregnant women, diminishing their duties and excluding them from other opportunities.

The EEOC had asked Bloomberg about previous statements about employees who leave Bloomberg to work for competitors. To those employees who leave, he’s said, “[W]e all heartily and cordially really do hope they fail,” AP reports.

In response to the snippets of depositions released Thursday in federal court, Bloomberg L.P. issued a statement to the AP that, “The EEOC has no substantive argument or evidence in this case. Rather, they have resorted to regurgitating second- and third-hand quotes—these accusations are old news and false. Bloomberg is one of the fastest-growing companies in New York for a good reason: It’s a great place to work.”
