McDermott Will & Emery has just announced that it is cutting 25 lawyers and 47 staff members from its roster.

In an internal memo today to all law firm personnel, chairman Harvey Freishtat says the layoffs were made after reviewing current and projected client needs, reports the Am Law Daily.

"While we are seeing signs of recovery in some practice areas, demand for transactional-related services continues to lag," Freishtat writes.

The 1,055-attorney firm also laid off 60 lawyers and 89 staff members in February because of a decline in legal work.

Despite the many happy words in the day’s general economic news, it seems to be just another layoff Thursday for lawyers.  Probably more firms will make incremental cuts as they review their May revenues.
