McDermott Will & Emery has re-evaluated its "above market" benefits plans for attorneys and staff and is reducing employee benefits effective July 1.
An internal memo obtained by Above the Law, stated that "everyone will be affected and will pay more at the point of service," but that the firm believes "these changes are relatively modest."
A spokeswoman for McDermott Will & Emery contacted by the ABA Journal declined to comment on the internal memo.
McDermott announced layoffs of 25 attorneys and 47 staff last week, and days before that, a McDermott spokesperson told Above the Law that it would pay its summer associates a prorated $135,000 annual salary rather than a prorated $160,000 annual salary.

dont worry employees and associates - partners will still get million dollar bonus checks. One day you might get one too.
We need to unions to represent the working class at these law firms!

To Tim, I wish you luck organizing. The 9 to 5 movement in Cleveland died over 20 years ago and everyone’s scared to try to revive it.
