In a new program at O’Melveny & Myers, an associate from the mega-firm has traded places for three months with a counterpart from a 22-lawyer Mexico City firm with an impressive client list.

Although the imported lawyer won’t practice law in Los Angeles, he is learning about American culture and legal standards. Meanwhile, he is also broadening the perspective of O’Melveny’s lawyers, reports New York Lawyer (reg. req.), reprinting an article from the Recorder.

O’Melveny hopes the program will encourage a closer relationship with Mexico City-based Solorzano, Carvajal, Gonzalez and Perez-Correa, and lead to more collaboration by the two firms on cross-border projects, says Michael Camunez, a partner in the L.A. office.

“Markets are changing, our clients’ needs are changing and we see this as a way of getting ahead of the curve,” he says.
