Last week, a major commercial law firm in Miami pulled out of a 10-year, $58 million lease deal for new office space.
This week, the managing partner of Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod confirms that the firm has made a "small number" of layoffs, reports the Daily Business Review.
However, the more than 100-attorney firm is busy in hot practice areas including litigation and bankruptcy, and it expects moderate growth going forward, says John Sumberg. "Those are the areas where we're very busy and where we are expecting to grow," he said. "Our primary focus right now for growth is in litigation. We're actively looking for lawyers in that area."
Although Sumberg declines to say exactly how many layoffs were made, sources state that they included a nonequity corporate partner, a real estate associate and two staff members, the article reports.

You might call him a “Sumberg Millionaire.”
I can’t believe I beat B.McLeod to it…
