A Michigan lawyer who found $1,160 at a Dairy Queen in May could keep the cash because no one has come forward to claim it.

But lawyer Jules Fiani of Howell, Mich., has decided to give the money to charity, according to the Livingston Daily Press & Argus. He found the money in a white envelope while picking up an ice cream cake for his son’s college graduation party. He turned it over to the Livingston County Sheriff’s office, but enough time has lapsed that the money now belongs to him.

“It’s found money and it’s the right thing to do,” Fiani told the newspaper. “I wish I had more to give away.”

According to Avvo, 40 percent of Fiani’s work consists of DUI cases. He also handles auto accident, personal injury and criminal defense cases. The first $250 will go to the Sheriff’s Department’s Shop With a Cop program in which low-income youths go Christmas shopping with police officers.
