A nearly 350-attorney Midwest law firm is planting its flag on the West Coast with the pending acquisition of a 10-attorney Los Angeles legal shop.

Thompson Coburn plans to finalize its merger with Freedman Weisz in early October, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The Thompson firm currently has offices in St. Louis, Chicago, southern Illinois and Washington, D.C.

“They’ve built a fine practice that aligns perfectly with a number of our key areas of focus: corporate transactions, tax and estate planning, litigation, real estate, intellectual property and private client services,” said chairman Tom Minogue of Thompson Coburn in a written statement provided to the newspaper. “We couldn’t be happier about following so many of our clients to California and teaming up with such a splendid group of lawyers, and plan expeditiously to more than double the size of the office.”
