Lawyers representing Sept. 11 suspect Ramzi Binalshibh have won permission to inspect a secret detention center at Guantanamo Bay where he is being held.

Judge Ralph Kohlmann, a Marine colonel, said the lawyers could visit the mysterious Camp 7 to inspect the conditions of their client’s confinement, the Washington Post (reg. req.) reports.

Military officials did not acknowledge the existence of Camp 7 until earlier this year, the story says. Its location is classified and it is heavily guarded. Human Rights Watch has charged that conditions at maximum security facilities at Guantanamo are harming the detainees’ mental health.

Binalshibh is being administered a psychotropic drug used to treat schizophrenia. He denies that he is mentally ill.

Kohlmann also ruled that a clinical psychologist could examine Binalshibh’s classified medical records, but he will not be allowed to interview the detainee, the story says.
