Missing lawyer is suspended, after probe finds 58 cases in disarray
A Missouri lawyer has been temporarily suspended by the state’s top court, after an investigation by the office of chief disciplinary counsel found he had apparently abandoned his practice.
St. Louis County police have been looking for Jeffrey Witt since his ex-wife filed a missing person report on Nov. 22, according to KTVI and Missouri Lawyers Weekly (sub. req.). He is perhaps best known for revealing to authorities his suspicion about a former client who was subsequently convicted of a parking garage bombing that injured a lawyer in suburban St. Louis.
A total of 58 of Witt’s cases were left in disarray, the disciplinary counsel’s office said in a 128-page report. According to what appears to be Witt’s website, his practice focused on personal injury cases, real estate law, mortgage fraud cases, criminal law, traffic law, estate planning and business law.
