A Connecticut lawyer who disappeared after proclaiming in an e-mail that he was “out of here” has turned up at a Florida rehab center.

Deron Drumm sent the e-mail to an associate at his two-lawyer firm in Avon on March 12, two days after a real estate closing that brought Drumm to the attention of state ethics authorities, the Connecticut Law Tribune reports. The 28-year-old associate, Matthew Mancini, is now the appointed receiver for the law firm, only 18 months after he first began practicing law, the Connecticut Law Tribune reported in a prior story.

Drumm’s trust account had insufficient funds to cover a $119,000 check intended to pay off a mortgage on property transferred at the closing, the story says.

Mancini told the Law Tribune that news of the bounced check was “definitely a shock” and “I’m just really sad for him.” Drumm suffered a stroke last year and he was also dealing with personal problems, Mancini said.

HealthCare Connection of Tampa told grievance officials that Drumm is at their clinic. The center is known for its addiction recovery program designed especially for lawyers.
