A mom in Massachusetts says the side effects from cancer medication made her autistic son, Jeremy Fraser, so sick she was afraid they would kill him. So she stopped giving him the drugs that his oncologist says might have given the boy an 85 percent or 90 percent chance of curing his non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Now Kristen LaBrie is at trial, charged with attempted murder, assault, battery and child endangerment concerning her son’s death, at age 9, in 2009, LaBrie admitted to the court that she concealed from her son’s treating physicians that she was withholding his medication, but says she did so out of concern for him. The government suggests that she might have done so out of anger at his father, reports the Associated Press.

“He was just not capable of getting through any more chemotherapy,” she said.
