An American woman who sent her adopted son back to Russia has been ordered to pay child support to the adoption agency, which plans to hold the money in trust for the child.

Judge Lee Russell of Shelbyville, Tenn., entered a default judgment against Torry Hansen on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press and the Shelbyville Times-Gazette. The amount to be paid will be determined at a hearing in May.

Hansen never appeared to contest the suit. She faxed the court a letter on Tuesday saying she no longer lived in Tennessee and wanted a court-appointed lawyer. Russell said he couldn’t appoint a lawyer, though, unless Hansen appeared to answer financial questions, AP says.

In 2010, Hansen placed the 7-year-old adopted boy on a plane to Russia with a note saying she didn’t want him anymore because he was violent and had psychological problems. He now lives at a group home in Russia.
