Morgan Lewis is acquiring 525 lawyers and staffers from Bingham McCutchen in addition to 226 partners from the law firm.

Terms of the acquisition were finalized on Friday, the Am Law Daily reports. The acquisition gives Morgan Lewis about 2,000 lawyers in 28 offices.

Morgan Lewis chair Jami McKeon said in a press release that the new colleagues will “create a new global powerhouse.”

Morgan Lewis gains new or expanded capabilities through Bingham’s top lawyers in areas such as telecommunications, structured transactions, environmental litigation, securities enforcement, global asset management, project finance, restructuring, institutional investor finance, taxation, intellectual property and antitrust, the press release says. And Bingham clients will gain through Morgan Lewis’ strengths in areas such as white-collar defense, high-stakes litigation, corporate transactions, labor and employment, energy, immigration and health care.

Not everyone at Bingham is making the move. The firm had listed 307 partners on its website, but only 226 are being acquired by Morgan Lewis. Among the law firms picking up Bingham partners are Blank Rome, Carlton Fields Jorden Burt and Seyfarth Shaw. In addition, up to 30 marketing and document review employees at Bingham’s back-office center in Kentucky are being laid off, the Am Law Daily says.
