Prompted by a morgue photo, a Venezuelan court has banned newspapers in the South American country from publishing violent images.

But an editor for the El Nacional newspaper that published the photo said the ban was political and suggested that the publication might violate it, reports the Associated Press. The photo at issue was intended to illustrate the nation’s violent crime rate.

Meanwhile, in California, morgue photos of an accident victim that were published on the Internet have prompted civil litigation against the authorities who allegedly made them available, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The civil suit alleges invasion of privacy.
