A trio whose $8 million Ohio armored car heist inspired a local lawyer to pen the song “Dumb as Dillon” are now facing the music for their crime, to which they earlier pleaded guilty.

Nicole Boyd, 25, was sentenced yesterday to five years in prison, and her boyfriend Roger Dillon, 23, and his mother S. Lee Gregory, 49, are scheduled to be sentenced today, reports the Associated Press.

Boyd, who was tearful and apologetic in court, had no prior record, was not the mastermind in this case and has been working to straighten out her life, said U.S. District Court Judge John Adams.

A local NBC News affiliate says Boyd could have gotten as little as two years, and prosecutors are seeking as much as 12 years for Dillon. His mother is expected to get less time than her son.

As discussed in an earlier ABAJournal.com post, Dillon got a job with an armored car company in order to learn its confidential codes and pull off the heist as an inside job. However, his post-crime planning was lacking.

Suspicion quickly focused on the trio when none could be found following the heist, and a heating oil receipt inside the pickup truck Boyd left in the vicinity of the post-Thanksgiving robbery led authorities to their hideout, in a trailer in West Virginia.
