The Chicago Tribune’s music critic is impressed with the latest album by hip-hop artist Capital D, who goes by the name David Kelly in his day job as an associate at Katten Muchin Rosenman.

David Kelly’s law firm bio says he concentrates his practice in mergers and acquisitions, general corporate matters, corporate securities and sports law. There is no mention of his music career.

Kelly’s new album, PolyMath, includes references to torture charges against a Chicago police commander, the New York Times reports in a story by the Chicago News Cooperative. Chicago Tribune music critic Greg Kot praises the release as a landmark, the story says. According to Kot, Kelly is “as ominous as a shiv in a back alley, exposing the brutal politics of race relations.”

“There’s definitely a tension between my two lives,” Kelly told the publication. “Rappers don’t go to law school and then work for corporate law firms.”
