Crowell & Moring is rolling out the red carpet for a mallard duck that has laid eight eggs in a nest it built in a terrace flower planter outside the law firm’s ninth-floor conference room in Washington, D.C.

A contractor working on other Crowell renovations has constructed a wooden access ramp intended to make it easier for the ducklings, who are expected to hatch as early as today, to get to and from their nest, the Washington Post reports.

Meanwhile, the firm’s caterer has been whipping up some tasty treats for both Mrs. Mallard and the expected babies. The entrance to the terrace has been locked to prevent human visitors from disturbing the fledgling family as the ducklings grow up over the summer.

“The plan is they’ll all fly away as a happy family,” said Andre Whisenton. He serves as Crowell & Moring’s assistant director of operations.
