Nev. Supreme Court to Reopen Following Smoke Incident

Officials expected the Nevada Supreme Court to reopen today after oily smoke from a malfunctioning elevator shut down the building.

The smoke was caused by an elevator hydraulic pump that overheated on Saturday, the Nevada Appeal reports. The court reopened yesterday, but staffers were sent home after complaining of the lingering burning-rubber odor.

Cleanup crews worked on the Carson City building to remove the smoke and soot, the Las Vegas Sun reports.

The chief judge issued an order extending deadlines for court documents due Monday and Tuesday.
