NFL player Tom Brady adds superstar lawyer Ted Olson to his team to fight suspension

A week ago on Monday, quarterback Tom Brady of the New England Patriots got bad news from a federal appeals court. It concerned a four-game suspension imposed in connection with alleged underinflation of footballs during the American Football Conference championship game in 2015.
By Friday, Brady had a superstar lawyer with substantial U.S. Supreme Court experience on his team, reports the Washingtonian.
The new addition to his defense counsel group is Ted Olson, a former U.S. Solicitor General known for his wins in high-profile cases before the nation’s top court, including Citizens United and Bush v. Gore. The Gibson Dunn & Crutcher partner entered his appearance on Friday, as Brady and the NFL Players’ Association filed a motion that seeks an extension of the deadline for seeking an en banc rehearing of the matter.
While the New York City-based 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals could, of course, reverse court in an en banc rehearing, if one is granted, Brady’s retention of Olson suggests that he anticipates the case could go all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, the magazine article says.
