Architects are exuberant about the new federal courthouse that opened in Salt Lake City last week.

But a lot of city residents aren’t pleased with the structure, which is widely known as “the Borg cube,” the Salt Lake Tribune reports.

The moniker refers to a Star Trek alien race and its spaceship, the newspaper notes.

Reader comments in response to another Salt Lake Tribune article last week about the courthouse were overwhelmingly negative, the newspaper notes. One referred to the building as “a gigantic air conditioner compressor.”

Interviewed outside the courthouse, Jared McKinney, who works across the street, called it “dystopian,” adding: “It’s slightly more inviting on the inside than the outside.”
