New Jersey’s controversial U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie is resigning.
The New Jersey Star-Ledger carried news of the resignation and said Christie is the leading contender for the Republican nomination for governor. He made a name for himself prosecuting public corruption, but he raised some eyebrows for awarding a no-bid contract for corporate monitoring work to former Attorney General John Ashcroft.
Critics also say Christie resents criticism and appears to retaliate against those who challenge him, according to a story published in the New York Times earlier this year.

If the monitoring contract involved creatively putting clothing on inanimate objects, perhaps the vendor was uniquely qualified, such that it could properly be let without bidding as a “sole source” contract.

At least he didn’t urinate on a D.C. crowd like his fellow N.J. councilman.
