New telecommuting policy says lawyer working for US court can't live in Switzerland
News that some state court workers in California were working at home—in Minnesota, Maryland and Switzerland—has led to a stricter policy on telecommuting.
Last week, the Judicial Council prohibited those with supervisory duties at the Administrative Office of the Courts in San Francisco from working out of their homes and said those who aren’t managers can telecommute a maximum of one day a week, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The previous policy permitted twice that amount of telecommuting, plus supervisors had discretion to allow employees to work from home more frequently. That’s how one lawyer who had moved to Switzerland for a year got permission to call in from another continent, the newspaper notes.
